Oh, it`s an interminable controversy biggrin Of course it helps to stay more in touch with your parents, relatives and friends if they have Internet and you are:) When you are far away from home you can easily communicate with your parents etc., due to such programs as "Odnoklassniki, Skype, Vkontakte" and others. Your parents can see your photos and be sure that you are fine.
I have relatives in Lithuania but i`ve never been there. Nevertheless we are stay in touch. I call them very often through Internet, they send me photos of different moments of their life. Generally speaking i know everything about what happening in Lithuania:)
But still there are people who have not Internet or they just do not know how to use it help In this case all what is left is to use mobile phone. You should choose profitable table of rates. As for my mother she has big problems with equipment. She recently has learned how to write a message:) Well, what can be said about Internet?:))

It surely does. It is an easy and convenient way to communicate with your family. It is not as expensive as a telephone and there are a lot of useful features, like web-cams, quick messengers and so on and so forth.

Certainly helps. I want to say grate thank youl to founders of this miracle. Presently children and parents don't live together, and even in general on far distance from each other. And our family not an exception. How much now simply to come into the Internet and to communicate for example on Skype, to send the photos, or in "Schoolmates" to find distant relatives.

Internet does help people to communicate. It is cheap and can be used for video chat which is no wonder the best way of communicating ever (not counting face-to-face talk). Using some video-chat program for that purpose is as easy thing to do as calling via cell phone. You pay, say, 500 rubles for the Internet connection capable of handling video conversation and talk hours and hours never minding about how far away your relatives are and how much would it cost to call them because calls over the Internet are totally free of charge. And even cheaper connection with lower link-speed is enough for voice-only calls.

Plus we have e-mail, instant massaging, forums etc.

PS About teaching grandparents - at the very worst (if grandparents don't know how to even use a computer itself) show the way around to your parents, then they can invite grannies and grandpas in and have a lovely conversation with the whole family.

Yes, of course. yes First of all, internet helps us communicate with our friends. But what about our family? I don't know. Maybe for someone it is truth, but not for me. My parents have no wish to learn how use global net . Why? They think, that it is unnecessary. It doesn't matter where we are, we can always ring up each other and have a talk. mobile smile And I am agree.
By the way, do you know how many people use Internet for talking with parents? I think only 1 or 2 %. huh Others are looking for amusement. But it is only my opinion. king v

I think no, it doesn't. Not each family has a computer, and the more Internet. And on the Internet are necessary money. It is easier to communicate with family on the phone, it leaves less money and there is no attachment to one seat (to a computer). But the help from it is more! In fact you hear a voice of mum, daddy,, your family, feel as they experience for you.

Does Internet help to communicate with home? yeah, i think it really does.
What about me I always talk with my mom in the Internet. I came here from very small town and far away from here. And I don't have an opportunity to go home when I want, I can only call home or use the Internet to communicate with my parents.
Then internet has an advantage.. you can see a person you talk with! But at the same time you can't touch that person even you see him o her at the distanse for 40 cm. That's very pity.. For that occasion I don't like Internet but I have to use it to communicate with home because it really helps.

It's all for now, I said what I thought.

Yes, of course! Just nowadays the Internet plays an important role in our lives. It "provides" us with necessary information, gives a good opportunity to keep in touch with our family, friends, teachers, especially when we are far from them, for example, abroad. Using mobile phones in this case costs much than using the Internet, which contains many useful sites as Yahoo!, Yandex, Vkontakte, etc...

What else I can say? Internet is very usage thing, but chance of computer ignorance too big for our parents. And, of course Skype or other video connectors are real good things, but they are too expressive. You can rite a letter to your mom with a pen (pencil) and paper, or you can do it with compuer, results are same. By my mind, phone is the most usable, that humanaty ever did. Internet is good toy, but it just a toy.

According to the survey, technology has a very positive effect on communication within families. Researchers asked 2,252 adults whether new technologies had increased the quality of communication with their family. Fifty-three percent said it increased communication with family members they did not live with, two per cent said technology decreased this. Numbers were similar for those living in the same house as their family.

In today’s world it’s hard to imagine life without the internet for staying in touch with our family members. This is especially apparent for students who study in places other than their home towns. Using Skype for video calls and facebook or vkontakte for written correspondence enables families to stay in touch like never before. These free services are largely unimaginable to previous generations, but for those of us using them, it’s unimaginable to have lived with out. Even e-mail, which is now beginning to become outdated as facebook and myplace are creating newer and better ways for communicating, is still a basic form, and much faster than the regular post. It’s exciting to live in an era when we have these technologies available for us to take advantage of. While nothing takes the place of a face to face meeting, staying in touch with friends and family all over the world has never been easier
